What are the Most Important Parts of a Website?

Are you ready to create a new website for your business? Whether this is the first website your business has ever had, or you are keen to get started on a new design for the next phase in your company’s life, there are many smart choices you can make. Here are some of the things you need to think about when creating the perfect website for your business.

Layout

It is always wise to come up with a list of pages that you would like for your website to have. While it can be more expensive to run, it is wise to have different pages for each of the areas of your website. It can be really frustrating when a visitor clicks a link on a page and it just scrolls them down the page they are already on.

At a minimum, you need a home page, a contact page, and an about page. You should also try to have pages for each of your services or products that you offer. It is important that these pages are always set up in the right way. For example, if these pages are going to be landing pages for an external link, you need to make sure that they create the right impact from the moment they are clicked. Before you even start creating the website, you need to make sure that you have a good plan in place for each of the pages.

Images and Videos

We respond to visuals like images and videos much more positively than we do to walls of texts. Therefore, you need to make sure that you have plenty of images and videos scattered around. Obviously, if you are offering products online, you need to make sure that you are able to show what those products look like. For example, if you have an online clothing store then you most likely would need to have pictures of all of the items you are selling, preferably on models.

You can also do a lot with the right video content. Google ranks video content pretty highly. Video content can be a great way to add something dynamic to your videos. It always attracts the eye and it could be a way for you to highlight the best of your business in a short amount of time.

While you can use stock images or videos, you should also try to use your own original content where you can. You might need to have a small creation spree where you get together a lot of things that you use. However, you need to make sure that you the right partner at your side before you do so. Find someone who is a high-class editor and content creator who will be able to put together the edit that you want to use.

Copy

The copy is all of the text that goes on your website and it all has to be written by someone. Yup, even the smallest trail of text or a caption for a photo needs to be generated by a writer somewhere. You can choose to do it yourself, or you can find a copywriter to help you out.

The important thing to remember with copy is that it is not just about relaying information to the reader. Copy can also help massively with something called search engine optimization. If you want to make sure that your website is ranking the best it possibly can on Google, you need to make sure that you are using the best SEO tips and tricks out there. Part of that comes in with the copy. You will use certain phrases like keywords to help search engines like Google sort your website pages by relevance to a user’s query.

However, the engagement of the copy is also incredibly important. No-one wants to read something that is boring and uninteresting. You need to find someone who is capable of making content for you that is always going to be exciting and fresh to read. Whether it is a blog post, an announcement, or just an about page, you need to ensure that your website is friendly and perfectly represents your brand’s voice.

Branding

As a business owner, you have a brand. You need to make sure that this brand is adequately displayed throughout your website. It will be in everything from your images to your company logo and will even be dictated through your copy.

We mentioned a brand’s voice above, and this is incredibly important to master. For example, if you offer children’s party entertainment then you want your brand voice to be peppy and upbeat, while still maintaining a little professionalism. Ultimately, you want parents to know that you can offer their children a magical experience that will go off without a hitch. However, if you were a private medical practice, this would not be the same sort of voice. You need one that is more professional, direct, and knowledgeable. Many visitors will have had no dealing with your company at that point, so you need to make sure that you can offer them that experience they are searching for.

This branding has to match across your website to create a cohesive space that your clients will be able to navigate with ease. Try to nail this tone as early as you can when putting a website together and everything should be more cohesive from the start.

What is the Most Important?

When planning a website, it is difficult to tell which of these precisely is going to be the most important part. In fact, it is more accurate to say that they will all come together in a weird and wonderful way to create the right online space for your business. Take the time to work out what your business needs, and it won’t be long before you are in the position where you know that you have the best website possible.
