Tips for Starters: Creating a Good Website

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or a creative, in order to be successful at what you do, something that you definitely need is a website. Not only is it a good way to market your services (or even yourself), but in a day and age when everyone communicates online, it’s something that your potential clients and customers expect of you. In fact, did you know that reportedly 90 percent of customers say that online reviews motivate their purchasing choices? That’s the power of the internet.

Since your website is one of the most profound ways to make a great first impression, you want to make sure that it’s as professional-looking as possible. You can make this happen by hiring a graphic designer or web developer. You can also try your hand at building your own site via companies like Wix or Squarespace. Whichever route you decide to take, here are some tips for making sure that your website stands out among all of the online competition.

1. Ask “why?”

A wise man once said that the right questions are more important than good answers. When you’re in the process of putting your site together, ask yourself why you’re creating one in the first place. What niche are you cultivating? Is the site about generating revenue as much as promotion? What’s the visual impression you want to convey? Are you committed to updating it consistently? All of these questions will serve as the foundation for building a great site.

2. Learn SEO Practices

Search Engine Optimization – everyone needs it because that’s how new people are able to find easily find you online. You can learn a lot about SEO (and meta titles and tags) by putting “SEO practices” in your favorite search engine.

3. Use an Open Source System

Having an open source system is important too. Basically it’s what helps a web programmer make the most of the site that they are developing via using source codes. A favorite for many right now is WordPress.

4. Add a Blog

One mistake that a lot of people make is not having a blog on their website. The reason why it’s a good idea is because it’s an easy and effective way to keep your site currently. You can write content on the blog on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. Or (and even better), you can post up a video blog. Since most individuals, on average, spend no more than 59 seconds on a site before moving on, you can capture—and hold—their attention longer if you’re speaking directly to them rather than if they are forced to read what you have to share.

5. Have a Social Media Strategy

Say that you were reading a list of Web hosting reviews on Hosting Foundry and you happened to see several that talked about sites needing more social media links. You might ask yourself “Why do I need to connect my social media profiles to my site?” Easy. It’s a powerful way to draw more traffic to your website. Once you have a new blog, Tweet it. Also, putting social media tabs directly on your site makes it possible for site visitors to connect to your Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Honestly, we could go on and on about how to make your website fabulous. Hopefully, this gets you on the path to creating the kind that you can be proud of and your viewers can’t wait to see. Good luck!
