The Metrics Any SEO Analyst Should Be Watching

If you’re an SEO analyst (or are planning to hire one) there are some key metrics you’ll be expected to analyze.

These metrics indicate how the business is performing. They also show you whether or not your SEO plan is on the right track.

Read on to learn which metrics you need to look out for.

Key Metrics for Any SEO Analyst

Many SEO analysts have a continual feeling of uncertainty.

Without a way to track results, you can’t evaluate whether the work completed has been worth it.

The solution? Tracking multiple metrics, obtained from your website data. You can also do this as part of a marketing audit for your business. That way, you can see how you stack up against your competition.

Here are the metrics you should be looking at:

Keyword Rankings

You need to measure the specific keywords or terms you’re aiming to rank for.

A good SEO analyst can use this data to help determine if the appropriate keywords are being targeted.

By doing this, your keywords will boost your site’s standing in search engine results. You’ll also gain backlinks. You should be using your keywords throughout your content, which will be continually crawled by the search engines.

There are a number of tools for analyzing keywords that you can use to check your site. One of the best is the free Google Keyword Planner.

Backlinks

Backlinks have long been one of the most important factors for any SEO analyst. And there’s little doubt that they will remain one of the most important things to think about.

That means that your SEO strategy should definitely involve acquiring backlinks. Otherwise, you’re just holding back your growth.

You can get more backlinks by becoming an authority in your industry. The best way to make this happen is by creating great content that other websites want to link to. You can also guest post on other high-ranking sites to make this happen more quickly.

When you’re tracking your backlinks, your URL and domain will both have ratings.

These rating should be steadily increasing if your SEO plan is working well.

Organic Search Traffic

SEO is the best way to increase your organic (free) search traffic. This should be increasing each month.

Go to your Google Analytics account and check your Audience Overview. From here, you can see your overall website traffic from the last 30 days. You can adjust this for a longer period if you’d like to see trends over a few months.

Continue to check this each month. That way, you can see if your organic search traffic is growing.

Page Speed

Page speed continues to be important, especially as new gadgets and faster Internet connections demand that websites be responsive.

Search engines now analyze website page speed. They use this information to help determine where websites should sit in the search results.

If you’re aiming to improve your search rankings, you should always be looking for ways to improve this metric.
