Hey guys. You might have noticed that we were down for about a week, until yesterday. That happened because the old server that hosted CrazyLeaf was getting to small for our growing traffic. How did this happen ? Well it kinda caught us off guard, because of the huge traffic spike we had for a couple of days, which caused the server to crash. We tried to fix it / optimize and restart it a couple of times but it was pointless. The last time we started it we received over 2000 requests in 30 seconds.
Anyway we have a new, more powerful server now, we did a lot of tweaks to the website, a lot of optimizations so the browsing experience should be significantly improved.
Overall a few other things have changed, except for the speed optimizations :
- You may have noticed by now that the “User Submitted Links” section is gone. This is due to the fact that the quantity of spam we received in the last couple of months was getting ridiculous. We are working on an optimized version for the user submitted links and we’ll keep you posted on this. In the mean time you can submit your design links on our social media website, zaBox.
- We changed the social media sharing bookmarks. We decided to go with a plugin for this (bottom of each article). We went with Sexy Bookmarks for the clean look and speed it offers.
- The biggest change you may see is the new comment system. We decided to give Disqus a try and so far I must say I am impressed. You can still post as a guest (as the old comment system version) and now you have some extra options such as login with your Facebook, Twitter, OpenID or Disqus accounts, a comment and article like system, unlimited threaded comments, comment RSS and much more. Basically what we are looking for is making the articles more interactive and more community driven.
We are still testing and tweaking on the new server but WE’RE BACK, WE’RE HERE TO STAY and we will be resuming our normal rhythm starting now.
And last but not least thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience this down time may have caused.
