Zurker is a third generation social networking application driven by the distinct feature that it’s owned by its members in a sort-off virtual democracy.
Yes, you read correctly…Zurker is owned by its members. That is a big advantage for a number of reasons. As social networks are owned by big corporations, investment banks and other investors, they gradually turn from being member-oriented to money oriented.
Since Zurker is owned by its members, the primary focus is on the people that make out the community and in improving the network to be better, more intuitive and innovative for its users.
Zurker is a democracy in the sense that the users make the decisions. Until now, the traditional way social networks innovate through small groups of engineers that make all the decisions about which features will be made available for the members. In many cases these changes are driven by financial reasons or corporate politics instead of user opinion.
Because Zurker is owned by the members that make up the network, they will be apart of the decision making. With the feedback and ideas of the Zurker members, the app’s development team will develop the network in tune with what people actually want and / or need. At Zurker, you are a co-owner and an investor. You can earn vShares by referring your friends. The more friends you invite, the more equity you earn. Zurker becomes better, and better, as more people join, increasing in value. As Zurker becomes more valuable, your stake becomes more valuable.
vShares are units of equity in the Zurker social network allocated to the members in the alpha and beta testing of the product. A vShare can be viewed as 1 / 1.000.000 part of Zurker. vShares are allocated to members in exchange for inviting their friends to Zurker. vShares may also be purchased for cash. You might ask how is all of this done. Well, the answer is pretty simple … through an “open books” policy, which means totally transparent accounting. Every member can see the expenses and investments made in the company.
Currently Zurker has 9 localized versions based on geographical regions such as : United States, United Kingdom, Europe, India, Canada, Australia and others.
Zurker uses tags to let you be in complete control with the people you connect with. Let’s say you connect with a colleague from your university. You can tag this connection as “School”. Someone at work may be tagged as “office” an so on. The tags you use are, if course viewable only to you. When you post an update, you can select to what tags it’s available. This determines who can receive the update and thus keeping you in complete control. The same thing applies to your photos.
Similarly you can uncheck certain tags and stop receiving updates from people integrated in that tag.
Zurker also offers a private messaging system as well as a page system. You can easily create a page for your business, website or cause. Your privacy as a member can be also highly controlled and customized.
