5 Inspiring Time Management Tips for the Creative Mind

As a creative, you don’t have to be a time management master in order to get this essential part of your life under control. Everybody wastes time. It’s just a simple fact of life.

Are you wasting too much time throughout the day? Is this problem getting out of control? There are simple tips that you can incorporate in your day-to-day activities to make managing time easier than you might think.

And when you use these tips, and take advantage of the insights that we are about to share, you’ll produce more creative work and move forward positively toward your career goals and desires.

5 Time Management Tips for Creatives in Every Field

Here are our favorite tips for creative minds. Please incorporate them into your daily routine:

  • Set the right expectations – when learning towatch manage our time as creatives, we often set our expectations way too high. You can’t expect your creative juices to flow all the time. It doesn’t work that way and you know it. It’s nearly impossible to write a screenplay in a month, although some people do it. Are you trying to write a novel in three weeks? Realistically, have you ever even come close? Always set your expectations to the right level and give yourself enough leeway to screw up and waste time when needed.

  • Write everything down – most creative minds like to fly by the seat of their pants. And they neglect to write down the most significant aspects of their creative business. Create a list of goals and write it down. Create a daily to-do list and keep it on hand at all times. Set a weekly schedule, monthly schedule, and yearly schedule and always stick to it. At the end of the day, you’ll be more creative than ever because your mind will focus on the necessary tasks needed to succeed.

  • It’s easier to manage time when you’re busy – this may seem contradictory but it’s the absolute truth. The more there is going on in your life, the easier it will be to manage your time. Getting everything done can get confusing, but having a lot to do puts you in the right frame of mind. It allows you to accomplish things and stay on task. Create a plan or schedule and add everything that needs to get done to the list. You’ll tackle these tasks faster than you can blink.

  • Use time tracking tools to your advantage – using a time tracker will help keep you on task. It will show you how much time you’ve spent on a particular project and help keep everything organized for billing purposes. This tool is amazing and perfect for all creative minds.

  • It’s okay to slow down or change your mind altogether – if a project isn’t working out, take it slow. Figure out why it isn’t working. And if necessary, change your mind and drop the project altogether. This will free up valuable mental space and make it easier to manage your time wisely while working on other projects that you have a better handle on.

Please read through this list again and begin implementing these strategies into your day-to-day life. Artists are not scatterbrained, or at least we don’t have to be. Time is on your side. Please use it wisely.
