What is BBPress<\/h2>\n

WordPress <\/strong>is one of the most popular open source blogging engine. BBPress <\/strong>is also an open source forum system by the creators of WordPress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

BBPress<\/a> is a very elegant and powerful forum system which is written in PHP and mySQL.<\/p>\n

BBPress <\/strong>has a very good integration with WordPress <\/strong>which helps us to get the full power and functionality of both these systems.<\/p>\n

Installing BBPress<\/h2>\n

You can download the latest version of BBPress <\/strong>from http:\/\/bbpress.org\/download\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Once it is downloaded it unzip it and upload it on your web server. Then point your browser to your BBPress <\/strong>directory, so you will see the following screen.<\/p>\n

On that screen press go to step 1<\/p>\n

Step 1 \u2013 DataBase configuration<\/h2>\n

In step 1 you will provide the information about mysql database<\/strong>. Here you will have to enter the Database name<\/strong> , Database user<\/strong>, Database password<\/strong> , Database host<\/strong> , table prefix etc.<\/p>\n

Here preferably enter the same database which you used for your WordPress <\/strong>installation.<\/p>\n

Once all the details are filled click on \u2018Save Data<\/strong><\/em>\u2019<\/p>\n

Step 2 WordPress Integration<\/h2>\n

For now skip WordPress integration by clicking on \u2018Skip WordPress integration<\/strong><\/em>\u2019. We will do the integration once the BBPress<\/strong> installation is done.<\/p>\n

Step 3 Site Setting<\/h2>\n

The third step is site setting in which you will have to enter the site name<\/strong>, site address<\/strong> etc.<\/p>\n

Here you will also enter the \u2018Key Master<\/strong><\/em>\u2019 username and email (Key Master<\/strong> is equivalent to your Admin user in WordPress)<\/p>\n

This will complete your BBPress <\/strong>installation. You can now point your browser to your BBPress <\/strong>installation and check if your forum shows up and everything is working fine.<\/p>\n

Integration of BBPress with WordPress<\/h2>\n

Open wp-config.php<\/strong> in your WordPress <\/strong>installation . In that locate the place where you find the following lines<\/p>\n

The go on the this URL<\/a> to generate new keys and replace then in wp-config.php<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then open bb-config.php<\/strong> in you BBPress <\/strong>installation and search the following lines in it.<\/p>\n

Then you can replace the following lines with the keys you pasted in wp-config.php<\/strong>. You have to just add BB_<\/strong> before every key as shown below.<\/p>\n

Once these files are saved log into the Key Master account<\/strong> of your BBPress <\/strong>installation and in you setting click on \u2018WordPress Integration<\/strong><\/em>\u2019<\/p>\n

After that the first thing you need to do is to map the roles between wordpress and BBPress<\/strong>. You can map the roles as shown below ( or some appropriate combination based on your site ) . Once the roles are mapped you can click on \u2018Save Changes<\/strong><\/em>\u2019<\/p>\n

\"BBPress<\/p>\n

Below on the screen you will have to do a few more settings as shown below. For the cookies you will have to enter the WordPress<\/strong> URL and Blog URL<\/strong>. These should be the same as on the Settings page<\/strong> of your WordPress <\/strong>site.<\/p>\n

Then you will have to do the setting for the database .If you have installed BBPress <\/strong>in the same database as your WordPress<\/strong> installation then you will just have to add the table prefix you gave in wordpress. This prefix generally is wp_<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once this is done you setting from BBPress <\/strong>side is totally done.<\/p>\n

BBPress Integration plugin for WordPress<\/h2>\n

The one last thing before we are done is you will have to download the bbPress Integration plugin<\/a> for WordPress<\/strong> and install it. Once the plugin is installed in your WordPress <\/strong>you will see the link of BBPress Integration<\/strong> as shown below.<\/p>\n

Click on BBPress <\/strong>integration and the following screen will appear and enter the details such as your BBPress URL<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once you entered the details it will generate some code which you will have to paste it in wp-config.php<\/strong> . This code will be generated based on the information you provided and your general setting.<\/p>\n

Once you have pasted the code generated in wp-config.php<\/strong> you are done with you BBPress <\/strong>integration with WordPress <\/strong>. Now user will have a common log in for the WordPress <\/strong>and BBPress <\/strong>installation.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/h2>\n

WordPress <\/strong>and BBPress <\/strong>together give a lot of features and functionality to your complete site . And the good integration between BBPress <\/strong>and WordPress <\/strong>helps the user to have one common log in for both the sites.
