How to Identify Anonymous Visitors of Your Website

The Internet is still a place of relative anonymity, but the tools for finding people if you really want to are all there. There is no better reason to find out an anonymous identity than to sell to that person! You just need to know how to do it.

Here is one of the procedures that can bring you these very important IDs.

Upgrade Past Google Analytics

Google Analytics is great when it comes to showing the metadata for your website visitors. It is a great place for businesses to start, but most companies don’t need to end the quest for information here. Most companies will need to invest in a program that breaks down the metadata into individual site visitor data.

You can drill down one level using Google Analytics, but you will not be able to find individuals unless they want to be found. To get the most detailed information from Google Analytics, look for the Network Report under the Audience category. After you access Audience, visit the Technology sub-menu. You will get behavioral data and acquisition data here.

You can find out here how this is put into practice, with the ultimate goal being to gain an insight into who is visiting your site, and what you can learn from this information to improve your business. Indeed, tools such as Leadfeeder can be linked to your Google Analytics via an API to make it easier for you to see which companies have visited your website.

Prioritize Your New Lead Base

When you are choosing a platform to identify anonymous visitors, you can also separate your audience into tiers – the people who are more likely to buy and the ones who are truly just visitors. Even knowing the bare individual data is pointless if you cannot identify who is truly interested in your products.

Look for a platform that has built-in lead qualification tools alongside the visitor identification tools.

Install the Pixel

Most visitor ID programs get their information through a pixel that you install directly on your website. This is usually a bit of code that needs to be put in your site’s backend. If you want to save yourself some time, you can install the pixel into your footer instead of having to put it on every page of your site. This is a great move if your site is dynamic. Who wants to install an ID pixel every time a new blog gets created?

If your site is integrated with WordPress, you may not even have to install it yourself. Take a look into the tools you have waiting on your Dashboard. You may save yourself some time here as well.

Even though you are taking the time to ensure you have your website backend set up to identify visitors, give them a chance to provide you with their information upfront as well. Make sure that you have a form program that allows your site visitors to enter their information in exchange for a value building asset (an eBook, a subscription trial period, etc.). With all of these tools in place, you should be able to build your email list from a wealth of information – information that is becoming more and more important with every new business generation!
